Alhambra
Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks
Alhambra is one of Spain's and Europe's major cultural attractions, with its Islamic-European-Christian architecture and gardens. The site goes back to Roman fortifications from 889 AD.
In the 12th century it was converted into a palace for Nasrid emir Mohammed ben Al-Ahmar, whereby it became a Christian Royal residence for Ferdinand and Isabella after the Reconquista of 1492. Charles V built a Renaissance palace, which was however never fully completed, due to political circumstances.
