Berkeley Castle dates back to the 11th century and has remained within the Berkeley family since they reconstructed it in the 12th century. The Terrace Garden and Castle, with an interesting art collection, are open to the public.
The castle is the oldest to be continuously owned and occupied by the same family. It is traditionally believed to be the scene of the murder of King Edward in 1327.
The Terrace Garden includes the Butterfly House, the Elizabeth I's bowling lawn, a lily pond and extensive planting.
Berkeley Castle is also used for cultural and private events such as weddings.
