Castle & Garden Weilburg
Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks, Museums & Art Centres
Castle Weilburg dates back to the 10th century and was seat of the Counts of Nassau. It has undergone many extensions and embellishments, such as during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Castle and gardens are open to the public.
The complex stayed in the Nassau family until 1935, when the Grand Duke of Luxembourg sold it to the Prussian State.
Also the gardens were transformed during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Notable gardeners have been working here such as the brothers Johann Wilhelm and Johann Friedrich Sckell in the 18th century.
The eighteenth century baroque garden was lost and was restored in the 1930s.
Weilburg is also a venue for concerts, in particular the 'Weilburger Schlosskonzerte'.
The Castle and gardens can be visited all year around.
