The Collection of Anatomical Pathology, located in the 'Madhouse Tower' ( 'Narrenturm') and part of the Natural History Museum, features some 45,000 objects of pathological preparations. It is considered to be the largest collection of its kind worldwide.

The “Madhouse Tower”, designed by Isidore Canevale, is an important monument of late 18th century medical history, being the first asylum in continental Europe dedicated exclusively to the insane. It was founded by the enlightened monarch, Emperor Joseph II in 1784.
