The Albertina

Castles & Country Houses, Museums & Art Centres
The Albertina has today two locations, the Albertina Museum (Albertinaplatz) and the Albertina Modern (Karlsplatz). The origin of the collection stems from the Albertina founder, Prince Albert Casimir of Saxony, Duke of Teschen who married into the Habsburg imperial family. His wife was Maria Christina, one of Maria Theresia's daughters.

The Albertina features one of the largest and finest collections in the world, with around 65,000 drawings, 1 million old master prints, as well as modern graphic works, photographs, and significant collections of impressionists, expressionists, Russian avant-garde and others. Also the Albertina received and acquired in recent years the Batliner Collection and Essi Collection with numerous important artworks.

The beautiful State Rooms of the palace have been restored and can be visited too.
