Cesati Works of Art

Situated in a strategic position in the heart of Milan, the Alessandro Cesati gallery stands a short stroll from Sforza Castle on one side and just a few blocks from the oldest part of the city on the other. This area still conserves its Roman, medieval and Renaissance remains, with edifices of great historical importance, such as the Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio and the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, with its adjacent Cenacolo by Leonardo da Vinci.

Able to draw on a strong family tradition in art, marked by excellence in the fields of art, collecting and music, the gallery – founded by Fiorenzo and Alessandro Cesati – has been doing business in the Italian and international antiques realms for many decades. It also continues to pursue its own personal activities of research, selection and study of artworks, in various and specific collecting sectors.

The business initially set out from great specialisation in metal items, which, as its ‘genetic heritage’, have been and remain an extensive reference universe still today capable of stirring unexpected and exciting emotions. Exploration and research have gradually grown and developed over the years to embrace an infinity of other materials, thus extending the field of investigation to include the broad panorama of art objects and sculptures.

Quality, rarity and curiosity: these are the three main criteria guiding the Alessandro Cesati gallery during its selection of works, regardless of the material they be fashioned from. This might be ivory, bronze, coral, metal, wood, marble, tortoiseshell or terracotta – to name but a handful of the materials that nature’s melting pot has offered up to the countless skilled craftsmen capable of exalting their qualities and of turning them into magnificent artefacts sometimes destined for everyday use, or in other cases standing as fine and cherished furnishing pieces.

Alessandro Cesati is a member of the Associazione Antiquari d’Italia, of the FIMA, of the Syndicat National des Antiquaries and of the CINOA.
