Arenenberg Castle

Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks, Museums & Art Centres
Arenenberg Castle, surrounded by a beautiful 13 ha park, is today the Napoleon Museum. The castle's interior and furnishings are almost completely preserved, reflecting the taste of Hortense de Beauharnais.

Hortense was the adoptive daughter and sister-in-law of Napoleon I. Her mother was the empress Joséphine de Beauharnais, her husband Napoleon's brother Louis Bonaparte (KIng of the Netherlands) and her son the emperor Napoleon III. It was actually his wife, empress Eugénie who donated the property to the Canton de Thurgau in 1906.
