Ascott Estate

Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks, Private Collections
Ascott Estate is old farmhouse from 1606, expanded to a large Edwardian country house by the de Rothschild family, since the 1870s, and for the last time in the 1939s. The house contains a oldstunning collection of furniture, paintings and other objects of art, in the best tradition of the family.

The extensive gardens were laid out and designed by Leopold de Rothschild around 1902, with the advice of Sir Harry Veitch.

In 1947, the house, some of the collection and a small part of the estate was given by Anthony de Rothschild to the National Trust. However Ascott remains the country residence of the family. The present resident is Sir Evelyn de Rothschild, who increased the private part of the art collection up to the present day.

In addition Sir Evelyn expanded the estate, which covers today 1,780 ha (4,400 acres).

The house and gardens are open to the public.
