Its main goal is to encourage young people to aspire excellence in music. The National Section is open solo classical musicians aged between 16 and 25 years.

Participants must be Australian citizens or a permanent residents of Australia. 

A selection panel of high profile, expert musicians will select up to 10 semi-finalists, whereas three National finalists will be chosen to perform at the Finals Concert by the adjudicator at the Semi-final round.
