Schloss Bothmer was built in 1726 in Klützer Winkel as the ancestral seat of the Imperial Count Bothmer. The castle looks like a Dutch-English country house, due to the fact that Count Bothmer lived for some time in England (Downing Street, London).

It is an extensive complex, surrounded by a landscape park, whereas the Festonallee leading to Bothmer Castle and is one of the most beautiful avenues in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Bothmer Castle remained in the hands of the family for a long time. After the Second World War, the Bothmers were expropriated.

Today the Castle belongs to the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In the main building there is a castle museum, telling the history of the house, its inhabitants, as well as the politics in the Baroque period and the relations to the English royal house.

Every year, the Schlossgarten with its park is one of the venues of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival.

Schloss Bothmer is also a venue for Film, TV, Photo shooting, corporate and private events.
