Castles & Country Houses, Event, Film & Wedding Hire, Museums & Art Centres
The Castle de la Motte was built between 1774-78, and designed by Jakab Fellner or the constructor himself, János Povolni. It was commissioned by Baron Sámuel Szepessy, who was later forced to sell to the widow of Count Antal Almásy, Baronesse Anna Vécsey. The name of the castle comes from her second husband, Marquis de la Motte from the court of Maria Theresa, to whom the interior's French decoration and references are attributed.

In 1869 Istvan Steinhauser bought the Almásy estate for 96 thousand forints, which he donated in 1878 to his daughter Berta. Thus, the castle became the property of Berta Steinhauser and her husband, Gyula Galassy, Commander-in-Chief.

Their son, however, sold the estate in 1930 to the couple Balla and Benteley Drake, who were until 1944 the last private owners of the castle.

In 1972 the Heves County Council took the castle over and restored it, including the beautiful frescoes by János Lukács Kracker, József Zach, György Szikora and Antal Lieb.
