Monuments & Sites, Museums & Art Centres
Matthias House (Matej`s House), part of the Central Sloviak Museum, focuses on the history of the town of Banská Bystrica. There is an archaeological section, rooms dedicated to important personalities and mayors of Banská Bystrica, items representing the history of crafts, and Gothic plastic art works and paintings with unique works of both Slovak and European importance.

Visitors can listen to music by composers from Banská Bystrica and the exposition also uses audio-visual presentation and computer technology.

The Matthias House was built in 1479 within the City Castle site and was incorporated into the Mining Bastion. On the facade, there are dated (1479) coats of arms of Matthias Corvinus and his second wife Beatrice of Aragon, and the coat of arms of the city. Matthias Corvinus, also called Matthias I, was King of Hungary and Croatia from 1458 to 1490.
