Château de Belvoir

Castles & Country Houses, Private Collections
Château de Belvoir has a long and noble history which dates back to the 12th century. Abandoned and seriously neglected since the second half of the 19th century, it was bought by the famous painter Pierre Jouffroy in 1955, who started a long and patient restoration for nearly 50 years.

Today the Jouffroy family has opened it for the public, honouring the rich history of the castle, its famous families and personalities such as the house of Belvoir, the house of Cusanne, Ernestine Withem, Marchioness of Bergen-op-Zoom, the Duke Charles IV of Lorraine and Bar and the princely family of Rohan-Soubise.

The château is fully furnished, including various collections of furniture, old paintings, antique weapons and historical souvenirs and is used for exhibitions.

For detailed information concerning the history, visits and exhibitions, see website.
