Château de Berzé-le-Châtel

Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks
The Château de Berzé-le-Châtel is mentioned already in 991. In 1229 the sire Hugues de Berzé transforms the castrum in a fortress in order to protect the Abbey of Cluny. The castle, gardens and winery are open to the public.

The complex doesn't change even during the Renaissance and keeps its military character. With its fourteen towers and its entrance châtelet the fortress preserves in its three enclosures a set of medieval rooms and a Carolingian chapel .

Since 1817 the castle is in the hands of the Counts de Thy de Milly again and is transformed into a comfortable residence, but can be visited by guided tours on reservation.

The estate continues the traditional wine production with its own labels. Degustations can be reserved in advance.

The castle is surrounded by mainly two styles of gardens: a French style garden and the vegetable garden.

For more detailed information about history, visits and wine degustation, see website.
