Château de Bussy-Rabutin

Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks, Museums & Art Centres
Château de Bussy-Rabutin dates back to the 12th century built by Renaudin de Bussy. Owned today by the state, the castle and gardens are open to the public. During its history, the castle has been remodelled several times. In the 19th century it was restored again by Count de Sarcus but the estate became state property in 1929.

It is currently managed and taken care of by the Centre des Monuments Nationaux.

The château became famous by its owner Roger de Rabutin, Count de Bussy, who was exiled to his estates by Louis XVI after having participated in a historical orgy at the Château de Roissy, during the Holy Week. He was a keen collector of paintings which remained in the château until today.

It is surrounded by a beautiful park of 34 ha, attributed to Le Nôtre.
