Château de Hautefort

Castles & Country Houses, Event, Film & Wedding Hire, Gardens & Parks, Private Collections
Château de Hautefort, open to the public, owns its present condition to a remarkable couple, Baron and Baroness Henry de Bastard. It is now owned by foundation, the "Fondation du Château de Hautefort", presided by their nephew, Michel David-Weil.

They bought it in 1929 when it was in a terrible state and decided to restore the castle completely and to create the French gardens.

It was only after the death of the highly cultivated baron that the restoration work was finished in the early 1960s. However in 1968 a devastating fire broke out and destroyed a substantial part of the central building. Many people would have given up, but not the baroness. At the age of 67, she was determined to restore it again, and so she did! She found help and support of a national committee, many institutions and people such as André Malraux. In 1976 she was able to settle down at her beloved château. Having no descendants she created a foundation, the "Fondation du Château de Hautefort", over which her nephew Michel David-Weil is presiding.

Inside the castle the visitor can admire the art collection of David David-Weill. The Baroness was his heiress.

Château de Hautefort is also a venue for film & photo shooting, cultural, corporate and private events, such as concerts, receptions, dinners...
