Château de Chenonceau

Castles & Country Houses, Event, Film & Wedding Hire, Gardens & Parks, Music
Château de Chenonceau dates back to the 11th century, but the present building is an architectural mixture of late Gothic and early Renaissance. Château de Chenonceau and its gardens are open to the public and is used for numerous cultural and private events.

It is, next to Versailles and Chambord, the most visited château in France.

Chenonceau has a rich history. Probably the best known owners have been Diane de Poitiers and Catherina de Medici. After the death of her husband Henry II in 1559, the Queen forced his mistress Diana de Poitiers to exchange the Château de Chaumont for Château de Chenonceau. The latter was a gift from Henry to Diane.

Chenonceau is still privately owned today by the Menier family, owners since 1913, who carefully restored the château and its gardens after their destruction during WWII.
