Ducal Palace of Vila Viçosa

Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks, Museums & Art Centres, Music, Private Collections
Ducal Palace of Vila Viçosa, a former royal residence, is still owned by a family foundation of the House of Braganza. The palace and gardens are open to the public, where it can enjoy a beautiful interior with valuable collections.

The palace is also used for cultural events, in particular concerts.

It was King Manuel II who, died in exile in 1932, left the instructions in his will to create the "House of Braganza Foundation" in order to safeguard this important historic heritage.

Apart from the Royal Apartments, the visitors can admire the armoury, the coach, Chinese Porcelain, the treasury collection and an important library with 50.000 volumes. In addition the palace is also housing the Hunting Museum and the Archeology Museum.

For more detailed information concerning history, visits and cultural events, see website.
