Dunrobin Castle

Castles & Country Houses, Event, Film & Wedding Hire, Gardens & Parks, Private Collections
Dunrobin Castle, dating back to the 13th century, has been home to the Earls and Dukes of Sutherland. Sill owned by the family today, the castle and gardens are open to the public.

The castle and gardens have been completely remodelled during the first half of the 19th century. However, in 1915 a fire damaged much of the interior, but reconstruction took place after WW I.

Following the death of the 5th Duke in 1963, the Earldom and Dukedom were separated. The Dukedom passed on through the male line whilst the present Countess of Sutherland inherited the Earldom.

In 1973 she opened the castle to the public, which can now admire the beautiful interior containing precious furniture, paintings (such as works from Caleletto, Hoppner, Reynolds), tapestries and other artefacts, or enjoy the wonderful gardens.

Dunrobin Castle is a venue for falconry.
