Egeskov Castle

Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks, Museums & Art Centres, Private Collections
Egeskov Castle, dating back to 1554, is still privately owned and inhabited, but contains also several museums and collections. Most of the castle is open to the public, except for the areas used by Count and Countess Ahlefedt-Lauvig-Bille.

The castle structure was built by Frands Brockenhuus in 1554 and is the best preserved Renaissance water castle in Europe. The interior has beautiful furniture and paintings. The Egeskov estate houses 5 museums: a vintage automobile collection, vintage motorcycle collection, collection describing the history of agriculture, a collection of flying vehicles and a collection of Falck and other emergency vehicles.

The castle is surrounded by a 20 ha park with features such as a Renaissance garden, the Fuchsia garden, an English garden, a Water garden, a Herb garden, a Vegetable garden and a Peasant's garden.

The total estate is around eight square kilometres with forests and farmland.
