Fertőd-Esterházy Palace, a Baroque Palace with 126 rooms and surrounded by a large park, was built by prince Miklos Esterhazy. Today it is open for the public, who can also enjoy many musical events in the tradition of Joseph Haydn.

The famous composer lived and worked here from 1766 to 1790. He was housed in a four-room flat in the servants quarters, separate from the palace.

Esterházy was nor the primary or the ancestral seat of the Esterhazy's. That was Schloss Esterhazy in Eisenstadt (see website: http://esterhazy.at/en/index.do )

After the death of prince Miklos, his descendants were never interested in living in this remote but impressive place.

Today the palace is also a venue for film & photo shooting, cultural, corporate and private events, such as concerts, receptions, weddings...
