Fortress Ruins Landsee

Castles & Country Houses
The Fortress of Landsee was officially mentioned in the Traditionsbuch (“Book of traditions”) of Göttweig Monastery in 1158. It fell to Hungary in 1222, but would soon change hands again. In 1612 the Landsee Ruins came in the hands of the Esterhazy family who reconstructed it, which was completed in 1666. Unfortunately a large fire in 1772 caused the Castle’s gradual decay.

Today, people can visit the ruins and go through the large preserved entrance gate, across bridges and courtyards, whereas on the viewing platform you have a wonderful panoramic view.
