Fortress Stolpen has a long history with permanent structural changes, such as its conversion into Stolpen Palace and as a partially ruin today. It is still well known in our days, due to Stolpen’s most famous captive for 49 years, Countess Cosel, mistress of August the Strong, who died at the fortress, aged almost 85.
