Forum Romanum

Gardens & Parks, Monuments & Sites
Forum Romanum was the real heart of Ancient Rome; the centre of government, economic activities, temples, processions, trials, public speeches...It is one of the worlds best known cultural places, attracting millions of sightseers every year.

It started to take shape around late 7th century BCE and the last monument built in the Forum was the Column erected in 608 CE in honour of the Byzantine emperor Phocas.

After that it fell slowly into decay and it was not before the unification of Italy that the first systematic excavations started to uncover its great legacy.
