The International Chamber Music Competition “Franz Schubert and Modern Music”(FS&MM) is a triennial competition for young ensembles from all over the world and a multi-day festival of chamber music. Admission free.
It was established by the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in 1989 and is about bringing Schubert’s chamber music into relation with both new and the latest works for the corresponding lineup.
The categories are: Duo for Voice and Piano (Lied), Piano Trio, and String Quartet.
With around € 100,000 prize money, the FS&MM is one of the highest-paying music competitions worldwide. Furthermore, with the composition competitions as well as commissioned works the expansion of the chamber music repertoire gets actively promoted.
The next competition will take place in 2019.
