Galerie Christophe Hioco

Antiques & Art Galleries
First and foremost, Christophe Hioco is an art collector who has been passionate about antiques since childhood.

He developed an interest in Asian art some twenty years ago when JP Morgan Bank, where he spent most of his career, offered him the opportunity to live in Asia - first in Tokyo and then in Singapore. That allowed him to expand his knowledge of the Far East and India, as well as hone his expertise in ancient art by traveling widely throughout the region.

In London nearly ten years ago, he decided to dedicate his life to his passion and become an antiques dealer, while remaining a collector at heart. Which is why all the pieces presented by Galerie Christophe Hioco are the personal property of the collector Christophe Hioco and bear his personal responsibility. He follows the same strict standards in choosing his pieces as do the leading museums, paying special attention to the originality, quality, provenance and authenticity of the artwork he buys. On a regular basis he calls upon the opinions of independent experts renowned in their fields and also uses the most recent, most sophisticated scientific methods systematically to confirm the authenticity and integrity of the pieces he proposes.

This uncompromising approach and personal commitment for all pieces acquired has enabled Galerie Christophe Hioco to forge strong relations and confidence among the world’s greatest museums and collectors.

All this requires considerable specialization. Which is why the gallery has specifically concentrated its expertise on Indian, Hindu and Buddhist statues, with special focus on major artistic periods such as the Gupta era (4th- 6thcenturies) and Pâla era (8th- 12thcenturies, Bihar region) as well as Chola sculpture.

Vietnamese art also plays an important role in the collection, with two main fields: extremely rare bronze pieces from the Dông Son culture and ceramics from the 1stto the 6thcentury, as well as those from the Ly and Trân dynasties.

Galerie Christophe Hioco takes part in the leading Asian Art Shows on a regular basis: the BOAFair and BRAFA in Brussels, Asian Art Week in both London and New York.

The Christophe Hioco Gallery is member of the S.N.A. (Syndicat National des Antiquaires Négociants en Objets d'Art Tableaux anciens et modernes de France).
