Gawsworth Hall & Garden

Castles & Country Houses, Event, Film & Wedding Hire, Gardens & Parks, Music
Gawsworth Hall was built in 1480. Since 1962 it is in the hands of the Richards family and today the home of Elizabeth Richards, and her sons Rupert and Jonathan. The Hall and the surrounding garden and park are open to the public.

Gawsworth Hall has been the home of the historical figure Mary Fitton, the mysterious Dark Lady of Shakespeare’s Sonnets, and maid of honour to Queen Elizabeth I. Her father, Sir Edward Fitton, spent a fortune (apparently 10 million Pounds, in today's terms), to built the garden which could rival those at Holdenby and Chipping Campden, hoping for a Royal visit from the Monarch, who never came.

The grounds include the sunken lawn, the courtyard rose garden, the rookery, the ancient pleasure garden, five lakes and the mile long Tudor wall.

Today Gawsworth Hall is a venue for Photo shooting, Open Air Theatre, Opera, Concerts, Car Shows and Weddings.
