Grugapark Essen (70 ha) has a lot to offer: a botanical garden with rare and beautiful plants, an attractive animal park, a games and sports paradise, a health facility and spa, stylish restaurants, an open air museum and a concert arena.
The Grugapark developed from the Ruhr horticulture exhibition of 1929
The “Hortus botanicus assindiensis” is the oldest part of the Grugapark dates already from 1927. It is a teaching and experimental garden for “green professions”, students and for the people in general.
The garden is housing one of the largest collections of conifers in Europe, an old wood population with botanical rarities.
The Grugapark has an open air museum, with an important sculpture collection.
In addition the park is a venue for festivals and concerts, such as the yearly Parkfest lasting several days.
