Haddo House

Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks, Music
Haddo House has been for over 500 years the seat of the Gordon family (later the Earls and Marquesses of Aberdeen). Today, with its large art collection and beautiful gardens, it is owned by the National Trust of Scotland and open to the public.

The House was build in 1732 and designed by William Adams. It is full of period furniture, furnishings and family memorabilia under the beautiful ceilings. One of the historic rooms is the Queen’s Bedroom, where Queen Victoria stayed in 1857.

Haddo House is surrounded by a large estate including formal gardens and a terrace garden with a wonderful herbaceous border and geometric flower beds. An impressive avenue of lime trees leads to Haddo Country Park.

On the grounds there is also a theatre, Haddo House Hall. Since 1945 the Haddo House Choral & Operatic Society (HHCOS) has its seat on the estate, where it hosts the annual Haddo Art Festival in October, attracting top names for concerts, opera, exhibitions and workshops.
