The Hermesvilla was a gift from the Emperor Franz Joseph I to his wife Empress Elisabeth, in the hope of persuading her, who was frequently travelling abroad, to spend more time in Vienna.
The Hermesvilla, today managed by the Wien Museum, was built by Karl von Hasenauer between 1882 and 1886 in late Romantic style. The artists such as Klimt and Makart enhanced the interior, as well as Makart's beautiful creation of “A Midsummer Night's' Dream “ in Sisi's upstairs bedroom.
