Herstmonceux Castle is a 15th century moated castle, surrounded by 121 ha (300 acres) of carefully managed woodland and manicured themed formal gardens. Herstmonceux operates as an International Study Centre for Queen’s University in Canada.

In addition to the formal gardens, there the visitors can enjoy the Woodhenge, 300 year old Chestnut Trees, the Folly and Secret Garden as well as our Lake and Moat Walk.

The stunning gardens are open to the public and have become a popular tourist attraction.

Herstmonceux is also a venue for corporate and private events, such as receptions, weddings...

Herstmonceux Castle is one of the oldest significant brick buildings in England, and was built between 1441 and 1449. First by Sir Roger Fiennes, Treasurer of the Household of Henry VI, and after his death by Richard Fiennes, jure exhoris 7th Baron Dacre.

Later, from the end of the 18th century the castle was dismantled and stayed an empty shell, until early 20th century. Between 1913 and 1933 it was restored and transformed into a private residence again.

The estate was acquired in the 1990s by the actual owners.
