The Hirschsprung Collection, opened in 1911, is a public art institution and houses a wonderful collection of Danish art from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, ranging from the Danish Golden Age of art to the Skagen painters and the Symbolists.
The collection was brought together by tobacco-manufacturer and art collector Heinrich Hirschsprung and his wife Pauline.
The collection contains major masterpieces by prominent artists such as C.W. Eckersberg, Christen Købke, Anna Ancher, P.S. Krøyer and Vilhelm Hammershøi.
