Hopetoun House is today owned by the Hopetoun House Preservation Trust, whereby the South wing is occupied as family home by the 4th Marquess of Linlithgow. The grounds and House, with its beautiful collections, are open to the public.
The house was built for the Hope family 1699-1701 by Sir William Bruce and later in the 18th century, extended by William, John and Robert Adam.
Hopetoun contains fine furniture, paintings, manuscripts and other articles of historical or artistic interest in relation to the House. It is also used for cultural and private events such as weddings and, occasionally, concerts.
The House is surrounded by a 2,630 ha (6,500 acres) estate, offering numerous outdoor activities.
