The Hugh Lane Museum

Gardens & Parks, Monuments & Sites, Museums & Art Centres, Music
The Hugh Lane Museum dates back to the extraordinary collection of modern art, brought together by Sir Hugh Lane, and which he presented to the Dublin Corporation (now Dublin City Council) in 1908.

The gallery has grown the collection considerably, focusing on modern and contemporary art and excellence in Irish art practice. It acquired Francis Bacon’s studio and archive, attracting audiences, artists and historians from at home and abroad.

The gallery holds regulary concerts, of which its weekly Sunday concerts are famous. They normally run from September to June and Admission is free.

Charlemont House, the home of Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane, was commissioned by James Caulfeild (1728-1799), 4th Viscount Charlemont and 1st Earl of Charlemont and built in 1765. In 1929 the gardens of the house were built upon to accommodate the Gallery.
