Kingston Maurward Gardens and Animal Park

Castles & Country Houses, Event, Film & Wedding Hire, Gardens & Parks
Kingston Maurward was built for George Pitt in 1720, encased in Portland Stone in 1794 by William Pitt, after a remark of King George III that he didn't like the brick. The House and grounds (303 ha/750 acres) are owned today by Kingston Maurward College.

But the gardens are open to the public, whereas the house is partially used also for corporate and private functions, such as conferences, weddings...

The gardens, as we see them today, represent the different periods of its history. The 18th century English (Capability Brown period) landscape parkland is elegantly integrating the 14 ha (35 acres) restored formal Arts & Crafts gardens, created between 1915 and 1922, and the contemporary animal park.

The formal gardens have been created by the Hanbury family, who have owned Kingston Maurward from 1914 until 1947, when it was bought by Kingston Maurward College.
