Knole goes back to the 13th century, but its main history starts with the Sackville family from late 16th century onwards. The family lives still there and shares the ownership with the National Trust since 1947.

The famous Vita Sackville-West was born here.

Knole is one of the largest houses in England with many courtyards, and set within a 400 ha (1,000 acres) park. The park contains wild deer.

Inside the house the visitors can admire the family collection, amassed over the many generations, with Old Masters such as Reynolds, Gainsborough and Van Dyck...
