Castles & Country Houses, Museums & Art Centres, Music
Kriebstein Castle is a well preserved fortress, is now a museum with atmospheric castle festivals, classical concerts, mystical guided tours, topical children programs or historical knights’ feasts.
It dates back to 1400 when it was completed on behalf of the von Beerwalde family. In the course of the 15th century it was remodelled and extended by the famous Arnold von Westfalen, the court master builder and architect of Meissen Albrechtsburg Castle. After having past through different hands, Hanscarl von Arnim of the House of Planitz near Zwickau acquired the castle in 1825. It remained the property of the von Arnim family until 1945.
Already under the von Arnims, part of the castle was opened to the public. In 1945 the von Arnim family was expropriated and in 1993 the castle became property of the Free State of Sachsen.
