Le musée d'Art et d'Histoire Paul Éluard de Saint-Denis is housed in the Carmelite convent where Louise of France, daughter of Louis XV, retired. The collections refer to medieval archaeology, religious art and contains an important collection on the Paris Commune of 1871.
The pavilion, where Louis XV visited his daughter, now houses the collection Paul Eluard collection, who was born in Saint-Denis and donated a substantial part of his works and manuscripts to the museum.
The museum is just about 400 meters from the Cathedral Basilica of Saint-Denis, the necropolis of the kings of France.
