The Musée des Arts et Métiers, or officially the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers, was founded in 1794 by Henri Grégoire, and is a museum for technological innovation. Housed in the Abbaye de Saint-Martin-des-Champs, the museum displays around 3000 inventions regarding Scientific instruments, Materials, Energy, Mechanics, Construction, Communication and Transport.

With a total collection of 80,000 objects and 15,000 drawings, the museum can only display a small part of it.

Henri Grégoire (1750 – 1831) was a Catholic priest and revolutionary leader. He was one of the founding members of the Institut de France, the Bureau des Longitudes and the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers.

The Abbaye de Saint-Martin-des-Champs dates back to Merovingian times and is mentioned in a text already in 710.
