Musée du Compagnonnage

Monuments & Sites, Museums & Art Centres
Musée du Compagnonnage, opened in 1968 and housed in a former dormitory of the monks of the Benedictine Abbey of Saint Julien (13th-18th century), is dedicated to the history and traditions of the Companions of the Tour de France, representing thirty different professions of traditional crafts, dating back to the end of the Middle Ages.

It consists of societies of young workers, aspiring to high level professional and moral development by means of a 'learning and doing' journey through France called “ Tour de France “.

The museum owns around 3000 objects and documents, a large part of which is displayed. In addition it contains a library with over 2000 books on the subject, which can be consulted.
