The Archaeological National Museum is housed in the Swabian-Angevin Castle, built in the 13th century by the son of Emperor Frederick II of Hohenstaufen, Manfred. The museum displays archaeological artefacts related to ancient Dauniae populations.
The castle-museum is managed by the Direzione regionale musei Puglia, which promotes and coordinates the museums in Puglia
