The Museo della Via Ostiense preserves materials from the area between Rome and Ostia, including  three arcosoli, paintings from a III century AD tomb. C. found in the Basilica of San Paolo, numerous casts of inscriptions and funerary stones, as well as frescoes dating from the late thirteenth and early fourteenth century (Eastern Tower).

The museum is housed in the Porta San Paolo. The Porta San Paolo is one of the southern gates of the Aurelian wall, which was constructed by the Emperor Aurelius in the 3rd century as a defence line against the Barbarians.
