Museum Leonardo's Vineyard - House of Atellani

Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks, Museums & Art Centres
Leonardo's Vineyard, was given to Leonardo da Vinci in 1498 by Duke Ludovico Sforza as a tribute to his admirable Milanese works (such as the “Last Supper” in the refectory of the Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie), linked to the fact that Leonardo's family owned many vineyards in Tuscany, so that he would feel 'at home' in Milan.

This also allowed him to claim Milanese citizenship. Da Vinci lived just a few blocks from his garden, opened in 2015 and which has been restored thanks to a few old drawings and schemes discovered in Renaissance texts.

The Casa degli Atellani belonged to the Duke Ludovico Sforza, who likely hosted Leonardo at this very home from 1495 to 1498.

Visitors can see the House of Atellani and the Vineyard of Leonardo through guided tours which last 40 minutes.
