National Gallery - Waldstein Riding School
Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks, Museums & Art Centres
The Wallenstein Riding School is located in the garden complex of the Early Baroque Wallenstein Palace (Czech Senate), and is used by the National gallery for short-term projects. The garden, with strictly geometric design, was laid out concurrently with the palace (1623–1629), commissioned by Albrecht of Waldstein.
The garden has an imposing sala terrena, an artificial grotto, and a fountain with a bronze statue of Venus and gallery of bronze statues by Adrian de Vries. These statues are unfortunately only castings of the original ones which were taken away by the Swedish army at the end of the Thirty Years’ War.
