The National Maritime Museum is dedicated to history of Dutch shipping and sailing which is closely linked to the history of the VOC - Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie (Dutch East India Company), and the Dutch “Golden Age“. The collection contains paintings, scale models, weapons, world maps...
Outside you can admire a replica of the impressive “Amsterdam“, built in the 18th century.
The museum is housed in a former naval storehouse, the 's Lands Zeemagazijn (the Arsenal), which dates from 1656 and was designed by Daniel Stalpaert as a storehouse for the Admiralty of Amsterdam.
