National Palace of Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and dating back to the 8th century, is one of the best preserved medieval royal residences in Portugal. It is also used for cultural events such as concerts.

The palace was frequently inhabited by the royal family from the 15th until the 19th century and became a national monument in 1910 when Portugal turned into a republic.
