Petworth House and Park

Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks
Petworth House is today famous for its stunning art collections and its 283 ha (700 acres) deer park. It has a 900 year history, linked to three families, the Percys (Earls of Northumberland), the Seymoors (Dukes of Somerset) and the Wyndhams (Earls and Barons Egremont/Lords Leconsfield).

The House, its contents and deer park (designed by Lancelot Brown), were transferred to the National Trust in 1947 by Edward Wyndham, 5th Baron Leconsfield in lieu of accumulated death duties.

The family, the current Lord and Lady Egremont, continues to live in the south wing of Petworth House.
