The estate formerly belonging to the Viscondessa da Regaleira but it was the wealthy António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro (1848-1920) who created this extraordinary place. It was built by the genius designer and architect Luigi Manini (1848-1936).  They aimed to fuse Portuguese mythology, a number of artistic ideas (Gothic, Renaissance, Rococo, Manueline etc) and glorify everything sacred. 

After having past through the hands of Waldemar d'Orey and the Aoki Corporation, it was acquired by the Sintra Town Council in the 1996s, founding the foundation 'Cultursintra' 

Quinta da Regaleira is also a venue for cultural, corporate and private events, such as receptions, weddings...
