Rheinsberg Palace was the residence of Frederic the Great , when he was the Prussian Crown Prince. Later his younger brother, Prince Henry of Prussia, lived here and made it a lively cultural centre.
Today Rheinsberg is not only a museum and housing the Kurt Tucholsky Literature Museum, but also the seat of the Federal and State Academy of Music. The academy is located in the former Cavalier House. In addition it is hosting every year the International Opera Festival (Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg). The performances are taken place at the palace theatre, the courtyard and the open-air theatre, called the "Hackentheather".
