Roman Amphitheatre of Lecce dates most probably from the times of Emperor Augustus (63 B.C.–14 A.D.), with later improvements during the reign of Hadrian (76 – 138). Later, parts of it were reused for fortifications. Amphitheatre was discovered in the 20th century. 

It operates under Direzione regionale musei Puglia, which promotes and coordinates the museums in Puglia
